How to properly maintain the hydraulic system in daily life?

Time: 2025-06-12
Maintaining hydraulic systems is critical to ensuring equipment reliability, efficiency, and longevity. Neglecting daily upkeep can lead to reduced performance, costly repairs, and unexpected downtime

1. Select the Appropriate Hydraulic Oil

Hydraulic oil is the core of an excavator's hydraulic system, providing not only power but also lubrication and cooling. Its quality directly impacts system performance, requiring careful selection based on working conditions (temperature, load) and pump type (gear pump, piston pump, etc.). For example:

  • Use low-pour-point oil (e.g., ISO VG 32) in cold regions

  • Opt for high-viscosity index oil (e.g., ISO VG 46) in high-temperature environments
Ensure the oil meets OEM requirements for anti-wear and oxidation resistance.

2. Prevent Air Intrusion into the System

Air in the hydraulic system causes noise, sluggish operation, and reduced efficiency. To prevent this:

  • Maintain oil level above 2/3 of the tank gauge to avoid suction issues

  • Use sealed funnels when refilling to prevent air entry

  • If air intrusion is suspected (strange noises or slow movements), idle the engine for 10-15 minutes while cycling all cylinders fully to purge air.

  • Regularly inspect suction line fittings and replace aged O-rings to maintain seal integrity.

3. Control Oil Contamination

Contaminated hydraulic oil is a primary cause of system failures. Implement these measures:

  • Oil Management: Never mix different oil grades. When changing oil, flush the tank with a dedicated cleaner for 30 minutes.

  • Filtration: Install 10-25μm suction filters at the tank inlet and 20μm high-pressure return filters. Replace filters when differential pressure exceeds 0.3MPa (typically every 500 hours).

  • Periodic Cleaning: Every 2,000 hours, disassemble the hydraulic pump and control valves. Use an ultrasonic cleaner to remove carbon deposits and metal debris, preventing valve sticking or component wear.

4. Regulate Hydraulic Oil Temperature

Overheated oil loses viscosity and lubricity, accelerating component wear. Control temperature by:

  • Intermittent Operation: Take 15-minute breaks after 2-3 hours of continuous use to allow oil temperature to drop to 50-60°C (optimal range).

  • Cooling System Maintenance:

    • Weekly: Clean radiator fins with compressed air (blow from inside out).

    • Quarterly: Check cooling fan belt tension (deflection ≤10mm when pressed).

    • Replace leaking hydraulic oil coolers immediately.

  • Oil Level Monitoring: Maintain oil within the tank’s marked range. Insufficient oil causes pump cavitation, while overfilling reduces cooling efficiency.
